TECHNOLOGY SUBCOMMITTEE

The Technology Subcommittee is a group of experts that works with all RWSC Subcommittees to identify data gaps and research needs that relate to the uses of innovative methods and technologies in wildlife/environment monitoring and data collection across Atlantic ecosystems.

The Subcommittee meets in partnership with the Marine Technology Society Offshore Renewable Energy Committee multiple times per year. All are welcome to participate. Subscribe to the RWSC newsletter to receive monthly reminders and calendar invitations. View the latest Public Technology Subcommittee Folder Subcommittee Meeting materials.

The Technology Subcommittee provides forums for ecologists and environmental scientists to engage with technology providers and industry members. Through partnerships with the Marine Technology Society and others, the Subcommittee designs and leads virtual and in-person workshops and other technology-focused events. Past events are listed below.

The This focused, two-day TechSurge convened experts from across sectors to explore advancements in monitoring technologies and practices that support responsible offshore development. Topic of focus included advancements in benthic mapping technologies, the use of technology to transition from traditional survey methods including new innovations, monitoring technologies applicable to offshore development, and a panel featuring perspectives from members of the fishing community.

The joint RWSC-MTS Technology Committee, which includes members from government, the private sector, and environmental nonprofits, in partnership with two US Department of Energy (DOE) National Laboratories (the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory), with support from the DOE and contributions from NOAA, BOEM, and Turn Forward, hosted a series of virtual workshops aimed at assessing the state of the science regarding technologies, tools, and methods for monitoring marine mammals around offshore wind construction activities. Three workshop sessions were held virtually in 2024.

The RWSC-MTS Joint Technology Committee hosted a MiniTech Surge and Tech Cafe on July 18 within the State of the Science Workshop.
